History

Jujitsu originated in Japan it was the fighting art of the Samurai Warrior which included armed and unarmed combat. Over the years there were many styles and secret techniques often unique to clan also known as a Ryu. Fast forward hundreds of years and the art of Jujitsu was refined into the martial art we see today. There are still many styles each one offering a set of techniques used for self defence. It all comes down to your own preference on what style you want to learn.

At our club we offer a very traditional style of Japanese Jujitsu which includes throws, locks, chokes, blocks, break falls, grappling and weapons.

Whether you are in Woodthorpe, Arnold or nearby, come give it a try.

How does it work?

For the most part, our style simulates an attack from a punch usually to the head or stomach. In other situations you'll be defending from a grab or grab and punch, a kick, attacker with a weapon or from being held in a headlock. The number of variations is almost countless with the end result being to take the attacker down into a lock or restraint. The techniques use a mixture of arm, wrist or leg locks, throws, blocks, parries and strikes to get the job done. All In a safe and controlling environment to avoid injuries. As your skill and knowledge improves so will the speed and difficulty of the move. The types of attack reflect what you will find in a modern day situation.

We understand that starting Jujitsu can be daunting. Many beginners worry about intense sparring sessions, but at Woodthorpe Jujitsu, you'll find a welcoming and supportive environment.

Bring a training partner for support, or we'll pair you with someone at your level.

For parents, rest assured that your children are in safe hands. Our safeguarding policy and DBS checked instructors gives you peace of mind.

Junior Class

The Junior Jujitsu system removes many of the more dangerous moves you'll find in the adult class. It still has all the key elements you would expect but children are still developing in strength and coordination. Hence the safety component we employ by removing these techniques. Parents will be consulted if we feel they meet the criteria to move to the next level.
